Fritz is a writer, but his writings are not as good as the stories he tells at the dinner table. Yesterday, he told us another story. It was about a couple from Scotland; the husband was a miser, and he never trusted his money to anyone, including his wife. The wife had a rich uncle who lived in America, and when he died he left everything to his niece. So the couple went to America to collect the money. On their way home, however, the ship was wrecked. The wife, who was carrying all the gold wrapped in her wraps around her body, couldnt swim and was sinking with the wreck. The husband was a good swimmer and could probably have made it to the shore safely, but he held his wifes wrist and wouldnt let go. Fellow passengers tried to convince the worthy gentleman that there was no way that he could save his wife and the gold, so he should loosen his grasp.“Never! Shell spend all our money in heaven if I dont keep an eye on her!” the husband replied.


弗里茨是个作家，但是他的作品却比不上他在饭桌上讲的故事精彩。昨天他又讲了一个故事，说的是一对苏格兰夫妇。丈夫是个守财奴，他从不把钱交给任何人保管，包括他的妻子。妻子在美国有个阔佬舅舅，他死时把财产全留给了这个侄女。所以夫妇两人去美国继承这笔财产。可是回来的路上船失事了。妻子带着所有的金币，她把金币裹在披肩里，把披肩缠在身上，因为她不会游泳，所以就和失事船一起沉了下去。丈夫是游泳好手，安全游到岸边估计没什么问题，可他却死死抓住妻子的手腕不放。其他乘客劝这位可敬的绅士说，他没办法救他的妻子和金子，还是松开手算了。“决不!如果我不看着她，她会在天堂把我们的钱全花光的!”丈夫答道。
