International travel makes people prejudiced more than broad-minded.
Why? How can they improve their understanding of countries they visit?
Introduction
It is human nature to hold prejudices about various nations, cities and races, which can help to group people into categories. These oversimplified ideas affect our views when going abroad, nevertheless there are ways to achieve greater understanding and mutual respect between residents of different nations.
Body
When living in a distinctive society, especially one that is homogenous, certain ideas about other races and cultures become inculcated in the minds of young children by teachers, parents and adults. Before individuals visit other nations, they have preconceived notions of what they will experience when they arrive, which are based on misinformation that is engrained in their minds. When in another nation, they might only focus on looking for these stereotypes and when they see any semblance of them, it will reinforce their misguided concepts of how others live.
In order to repair these erroneous biases, it is essential that education systems around the globe preach anti-discrimination and educate children in optimistic and positive ways. Furthermore, tourists must remain open to new thoughts and ideas and not merely concentrate on their presupposed views towards others, rather they ought to remain curious and inquisitive. In addition, it would be quite helpful for individuals to spend longer durations of time in foreign nations in order to get an accurate feel for the customs, behaviours and traditions of the local inhabitants.
Conclusion
Although prejudgements about other societies are deeply-rooted in tradition and culture, part of development and improvement is to correct these mistaken beliefs. Adults need to be mindful about what they tell children in order to secure a more prosperous and accepting world for future generations.
