  「Question No. 8

  Nations should pass laws to preserve any remaining wilderness areas in their natural state, even if these areas could be developed for economic gain.

  Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.

  解读指令:必须通过讨论“后果”来讨论我们的同意与否。也就是说,如果我们的讨论没有从后果的角度展开,写作是无效的。

  例如:如果我们不同意上班必须穿制服的理由是穿衣的选择是宪法规定的个人自由(that would violate constitutional liberty of individuals),在这个指令的环境下,是无效理由,因为这个理由不是“后果”。

  【假设立场:不同意,演示思路如下】

  后果(一):

  If some of the remaining wilderness areas are preserved in their natural state, there may be disasters, such as forest fires, floods, and disorder of the local ecosystems. 即然讨论“果”,条件(状语从句)—结果的句型不可能不用到。

  后果(二):

  The loss of the chance to have economic gain may be colossal and regrettable, since not all of the remaining wilderness areas deserve to be preserved in their natural state. 即然讨论“果”,原因(状语从句)—结果的句型不可能不用到。

  「Question No. 17

  Governments should focus on solving the immediate problems of today rather than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.

  Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.

  解读指令:必须通过讨论“情境”来讨论我们的同意与否。也就是说,如果我们的讨论没有设置的具体的“情境”来展开,写作是无效的。

  例如:如果我们同意上班必须穿制服的理由是“在直接面对客户的工作中”,制服便于识别且给创造客户的信任感,那么,我们的讨论就是有效的。因为设置了情境“在直接面对客户的工作中”。

  情境(一):

  Some of today’s problems need to be properly tackled; otherwise, they may deteriorate.

  What if some of our anticipations are inaccurate?

  There are cases that our anticipation may be for the distant future and thus too early.

  「Question No. 20

  Claim: The best way to understand the character of a society is to examine the character of the men and women that the society chooses as its heroes or its role models.

  Reason: Heroes and role models reveal a society's highest ideals.

  Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.

  解读指令:就指令本身而言,没有特殊要求。但是,讨论时必须(明确地 / 暗示性地)写出claim和reason之间的联系。

  【假设立场:不同意claim,同意reason,演示思路如下】

  Although a society’s heroes and role models reveal the society's highest ideals, they are not the best examples of the character of the society.

  论证reason的理由(之一):

  Exactly because those heroes and role models are a society’s high-achievers and must be the tip of the pyramid , the majority of the society are not like them or even are unable to be like them. 就已经在驳斥claim了。这就是在暗示性地说明了claim和reason的联系。

  「Question No. 27

  The best way to teach — whether as an educator, employer, or parent — is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.

  Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

  解读指令:必须讨论我们的反方会因为什么而反对我们的立场。然后,通过驳斥反方立场来论证自己的立场。
