一说到“sore eyes”,有人可能又会想到另一个俚语“a sight for sore eyes”,“sight”是“视野、视线”的意思,那这个俚语的意思是指疼痛的眼睛的视野吗?
肯定不是啦,这句俚语的英文释义为:“a way of saying that you are very pleased to see someone or that you think someone is very attractive.”
中文理解为“乐于看到的人;极有吸引力的人”。
其实直接理解为眼睛疼还想看到的景象或者人或者物,是不是极其具有吸引力?因此见面打招呼时就可以用这一句特别口语化的寒暄语:You're a sight for sore eyes(见到你真好).
