　　时装设计(Fashion Design)是服装和配饰的设计、美学或自然美的艺术。它受到文化和社会态度的影响，并且随着时间和地点而变化。时装设计师在设计服装和配饰方面有很多领域，比如项链和手镯。由于将服装推向市场需要时间，设计师有时必须预测消费者的口味，力求推出的新款会收到市场的欢迎。一位成熟的时装设计师能领导从概念到完成服装系列的开发和生产。设计师必须对时装设计理念、缝纫、服装设计和服装结构有深入的了解，并熟悉不同类型的纺织品和行业趋势。大多数时装设计师都是专家。他们可能专注于女士服装、童装或男士服装。

　　This is an introductory class for students interested in fashion design. During the seven-week online course, students will be exposed to the design process with particular focus on conveying fashion drawing as the primary means to communicate their designs. Students will learn how to develop croquis, draw a technical flat, render fabrics and begin to develop their own style while designing a three-piece capsule collection that they will illustrate as a final project.

　　Fashion designers start with concepts, inspiration and research, followed by the development of rough sketches to brainstorm and flush out ideas. Students will be required to keep a sketchbook to document their research and ideas as they develop their collection. These rough sketches will then be transferred to croquis and rendered as full color fashion sketches with applied texture, color, pattern and details via the use of appropriate art materials.

　　During the course students will explore the fashion figure, learn the standard proportions used, and research notable fashion illustrators, all the while being challenged to create their own unique style, designs and croquis. Focus will also spotlight designing and drawing garment details, construction methodology, and silhouette development. A wide variety of media and technique will be used to simulate fabric, an important part of the design process.

　　Each week, homework will be assigned which is essential for the personal development of croquis, fashion illustration techniques, fabric rendering and the capsule collection design process. Subsequently, student work will be presented weekly to be critiqued and reviewed by faculty and other students. Group feedback, critical analysis, and reflection are important processes promoting stylistic and technical growth.

　　本项目是为对服装设计感兴趣的学生而开设的初阶课程。在项目中，学生将会接触到整个设计过程，着重带领学生将时尚绘画作为传达他们设计的主要方式。学生们将学习如何开发速写能力，平面绘制技术，渲染织物，并辅助培养学生开发属于自己的时尚设计风格。导师将带领学生学习时装设计师在创作过程中的每一个元素。从概念、灵感和基础研究开始，然后发展成为草图，不断进行头脑风暴并将涌出的想法一步步转换为现实作品。

　　这些草图将通过速写被展现出来，并使用适当的材料应用与纹理、颜色、图案和细节，最终以彩色作品呈现，作为阶段性成果。在项目中，学生还将探索时尚形象，学习标准设计比例，并研究的时尚插画，创造自己独特的风格，设计和速写。随着项目的进行，学生还将学习设计和绘制服装细节，施工方法，和轮廓描述。运用各种各样的媒体渲染来模拟织物。

　　学生的常规作业将被展示并由导师和其他同学进行讨论。项目中，学生通过不断地小组交流来增加团队反馈、提升批判性分析和反思能力。学生将全程使用自己的速写本，以记录他们的研究和想法，亦能作为他们发展他们未来作品的灵感来源。项目在结束时学生需进行设计成果展示。项目将以一份完整的三件式套装 (three-piece capsule collection)的设计图作为最终产出，同时学生还将收获一次Portfolio Review 1对1指导，用于辅助申请和个性化推荐。
