  1. On the same wavelength
  wavelength n. 波长
  On the same wavelength 同一波长即:志趣相投;观点一致
  e.g. It's great to work with people who are on the same wavelength.
  e.g. I find him difficult to talk to—we’re on completely different wavelengths.


  2. shoot the breeze 闲聊
  e.g. I enjoy shooting the breeze with my neighbors.
  e.g. . Nothing beats relaxing on the beach and shooting the breeze with good friends.
  补充:beat: 没有比…更好的;最好的莫过于
  如: Nothing beats the raw beauty of the great outdoors. 没有什么比原始之美更赞的。


  3. It's the thought that counts. 礼轻情意重
  count v.有价值;有重要性
  It is … that … 强调句
  e.g. The gift he gave you for your birthday is not worth much, but I hope you'll understand it's the thought that counts.
  口语话题:why do some people like to give handmade gifts?
  e.g. I think it’s because something made by hand is more personal than something bought in a store. It shows that the person giving the gift cares about the person and is happy to put in some effort to make something nice for another person. It’s the thought that counts!


  4. judge a book by its cover 以貌取人
  e.g. We must never judge a book by its cover as looks can be deceptive.
  e.g. Many people just consider her as another pretty face, but you can’t judge a book by its cover. It is unfair.
  补充:

  more than a pretty face. 不只脸蛋漂亮


  5. clear the air 消除误会;澄清事实
  e.g. A frank discussion can help to clear the air.
  e.g. His letter has cleared the air; we now know where he stands.
  口语话题:
  How do we stop an argument from escalating into a fight?
  e.g. Identifying what led up to the point of escalation may help to clear the air. It is also important to put yourself in the other person’ s shoes.
  补充:put yourself in the other person’s shoes. 换位思考。


  6. Give someone the shirt off one’s back
  连衬衫都脱下来给你啦,说明对方倾囊相助;竭尽所能地帮忙,适用于朋友类话题。
  e.g. A true friend is someone who’ll give you the shirt off his back when you are in all kind of serious troubles.
  e.g. I’m afraid even giving me your shirt off your back will not help me pay for my new house. But thanks for the offer.
